Everything arrives by ferry, including us
Working on the Island is a different job from working on the mainland, and the difference is the crossing. Materials, tools and the fitting team all come over on a vehicle ferry to a booked sailing. There is no running back to the merchant for one more sheet. So we measure the whole job properly at survey, order to that measurement, and bring everything across in one load. That discipline is what makes it viable to come over for a single room rather than only for a full refit.
The Island's calendar is sharper than anywhere else we work. Hotels, holiday parks, pubs and cafes from Shanklin and Sandown to Yarmouth and Ventnor are flat out from Easter through to September and quiet either side, so that is when the work goes in. Care homes, schools and healthcare premises run all year and get phased room by room instead.
Hygienic cladding suits both because it is an overlay onto sound existing substrate. It goes in without wet trades and without stripping back to brick, which keeps the programme short and predictable, and a short predictable programme is worth more here than anywhere, because every extra day is another sailing.
The whole Island is covered by one authority. Isle of Wight Council is a single unitary and inspects food businesses across Newport, Ryde, Cowes and everywhere else under the national Food Hygiene Rating Scheme.
Recent work on the Isle of Wight

Staff kitchen, Newport
A staff kitchen in Newport, with white hygienic PVC sheet fitted the full height above the worktop, carried behind the sink and the socket run and taken into the window reveal so there is no exposed edge at the opening.
Tea points take more punishment than people expect. Steam from a kettle sits in one spot several times a day, and the wall behind a sink gets wiped constantly. Tiled splashbacks discolour at the grout and painted walls blister, usually first in the corner nobody can reach properly.
It is also a small job, and we took it on because the crossing was planned and the measurements were right first time.
