A coastal conurbation, a rural county behind it, and a season that runs the other way
About half of Dorset lives in one place: the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole conurbation on the coast. That is where the hotels, restaurants, care homes and clinical premises are concentrated. Behind it the county is rural, and the work spreads across market towns like Dorchester, Blandford, Sherborne and Wimborne, plus the seaside trade in Weymouth, Swanage and Lyme Regis.
Dorset also has a larger share of retired residents than most of England, and a care home and healthcare sector to match. Those buildings are cleaned hard and cleaned often, and they cannot be emptied while the work happens. We phase by room or by wing, keep the working area sealed off, and use an overlay system that goes onto sound existing substrate rather than stripping back to brick.
The seasonal pattern here runs the opposite way to most of the country. A Weymouth or Swanage kitchen is flat out from Easter to September and quiet through the winter, so that is when the work goes in. Care homes and clinical premises have no quiet season at all, which is why they get phased instead.
Dorset is covered by two unitary authorities rather than a county council. BCP Council inspects food businesses in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, and Dorset Council covers everywhere else. Both run the national Food Hygiene Rating Scheme.

Clinical hand-wash room, Bournemouth
A clinical hand-wash room in Bournemouth, lined in pale blue hygienic PVC sheet with a lever-operated scrub trough set against it. The safety vinyl floor is coved up the wall, so the floor-to-wall junction is one continuous surface with no skirting joint to hold water.
Rooms like this are cleaned several times a day with disinfectant. Painted plaster and tiled walls both fail at the edges first, and the edges are the first thing an infection control audit looks at.
Completed August 2026.
